Diane Monahan, 66, passed away at her home in Fredericksburg on Thursday, July 14, 2016, after a furious battle with Cthulhu. Just kidding, Cthulhu didn’t stand a chance. It was cancer.
Diane is survived by her ridiculous daughters, Becky Buchanan, Kelley Monahan and her “adopted” daughter, Jennifer Hanlon, who knocked on her door and never left. In addition, she leaves behind her favorite son-in-law, Matt Buchanan; and her three grandchildren, Chaylea Buchanan, David Whiteside and Riley Horstick; as well as a myriad of people who felt as though she was their second mom.
Diane left this world the same way she lived, quietly listening to those around her. She loved to laugh and was easy to smile. She has ridden both an elephant and a vacuum in this life. She recently took a cruise and terrorized other passengers by running into them with her scooter. She could frequently be found at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, a listening ear and a friend. She greatly loved her siblings, Cathy, Debbie, Eddie, Theresa and Sandy. She was also very close to her cousins, Anita and Lori.
A wake will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, 4801 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg VA 22408.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Diane’s name to the Tschirn Family Fundraiser. Diane felt strongly about supporting those in her local community and constantly gave to those who were in need, even when she had nothing.
The Tschirn Family just lost Mike, husband and father, and Diane followed their story until the day Mike passed, July 2, which was the day she entered ICU. She would want nothing more than to have her loved ones help ease the burden for Mike’s wife and daughters.
